Building a city

The last week has been far to busy, trying to find time to paint much has been almost impossible. Seeing as I have nothing to show in completed miniatures I figure I will instead cover what seems to me to be the sometimes forgotten element of war gaming, Terrain. I also want to say that its funny how much alike it seems gamers sometimes think, even when we have never met. One of the guys over at What would Patton do (a great blog and podcast by the way) has begun building "Steve-O-grad". about a week before I heard of his project I had ordered some buildings from JR Miniatures to begin the same project. Of course my city will not be "Steve-O-grad" and I am not sure I like the sound of "Matt-O-Grad" (that confirms it seeing it in type its awful). I intend to use a selection of somewhere around 50% JR Miniatures buildings and 50% built myself. Here are some pictures of the current buildings either completed or close to completion for "yet to be named-o-grad" If you have a good idea for a name for my city feel free to leave a comment who knows you might end up naming a city.

  6. that's not that bad, you may be the winner Mr.angry. I like good scenery, if your table looks bad then even the best minis will fail to make the full impression you want

  7. I nominate Judberg or maybe Judistan.
It's not my city, but I would be flattered!

Mattistan sounds like a real place.

  8. Matthattan, I like it but mostly due to the fact I wouldn't mind seeing NYC completely and utterly destroyed and void of life, maybe then the rest of NY wouldn't keep getting shafted by the city. Thank you Jud for getting me nice and worked up.

  9. very nice matt. I need to get brave enough to paint my stalingrad buildings.

My wife has offered to do them because I have so much lead to do...but I don't know...thats like asking to give up your first born...

although maybe it will get her more into the hobby and I can spend more money?

  10. Your wife has offered to paint your stuff???? WOW, that's a great wife you have there. I did get my wife painting but she is painting Warhammer fantasy stuff that caught her eye during my brief interest in the game. She paints quite well in fact, go ahead give your wife the ok to paint your buildings, the worst that might happen is she paints better than you and lords it over you for awhile.

  11. lol damn I never thought of that. that would be even worse. at least I could repaint it if it was bad.

what colors did you use for the brick and the interior?

  12. Everything was painted over a black primer. I used cheap craft paint from Walmart to do the buildings. The brick was a barn red which if you keep from putting it on too thick comes out a nice brick red with the black undercoat. The interior was done with Grey mixed with some black until it looked good to me and going back over a little lighter each time. I did make a wash of highly diluted black mixed with just a touch of dish soap to go back over everything and darken all the nooks and crannies and help bring out the detail.
